Systematik der Chamäleons

FĂĽr einen Ăśberlick der systematische Einordnung der Familie der Chamaeleonidae siehe unter Allgemeine Systematik.

Da die sogenannten Stummelschwanzchamäleons (Brookesia, Rhampholeon, Rieppeleon) eindeutig keine gemeinsame Unterfamilie bilden, haben wir uns dazu entschlossen, die Unterfamilien wegzulassen. Die Unterfamilien sind nicht zu halten, da Brookesia mit Rhampholeon und Rieppeleon nicht monophyletisch ist, also keinen gemeinsamen Vorfahren hat! Brookesia ist als Schwestertaxon zu allen anderen Gattungen zu sehen. Dies sehen nicht nur Müller & Hildenhagen, 2009, so, sondern z.B. auch Tolley & Burger (2007).
